Their Beliefs, An Over View
- The Egyptians thought that there were Gods that controlled their lives and their well being
- They had over 2000 Gods and they all were thought to control some aspect of their lives
- They Worshiped in temples and formed sacrifices to the Gods
- They also beveled that the king was able to communicate to the Gods and then when the king died he became a God
- But that was also a disadvantage to the kings for when the crops wouldn't grow or no rain would fall the king was blamed and in most cases ( if the Egyptians were desperate enough) they would kill the king to appease the Gods. They thought it was sort of a restart
- The Egyptians thought that there was an after life, and that to be accepted into the after life by the gods they tried to be as good according to the law as they possible could
- A common etiquette was to uphold the ma'at (harmony) that your actions impacted you and the others around you
- If they could live there lives like this, and stay with the laws then they would be accepted into the Hall Of Truth after death and be judged by Osiris, the God of Death
- Judging happens in 2 stages, the first stage was the 42 divine judges the deceased person would tell the 42 about there life and all the good they did,and even if they were lying if in the tomb they left a "Book Of The Dead" they could say things in their to fake their way through and be let into the 2nd stage
- The second stage is the weighing of the heart in which the God Ma'at would put the heart of the deceased (which represented the soul and actions they did) agents the feather of truth if the feather weighed more than the heart they were presented to Osiris and he would welcome them into the after life. But if the feather weighed more than the heart they were feed to Ammut, the ‘Devourer’ and was cased into darkness forever
- The after life they were let into "The Field of Rushes" ( their "heaven") was like they world like just came from, there was blue sky's rivers boats and Gods and Goddesses to worship. each person was given a plot of land and they were expected to maintain it ether by them doing it or have there shabtis (small statuettes) do it. they were supplied those when they got there plot of land and equipment.
